Why watch this?
Harley gets her own movie, and Margo steals the whole damn show.
Plot Summary: After
Harley Quinn breaks up with the Joker, she finds herself
targeted by Gotham City crime lord Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask.
Sionis is hunting for a valuable diamond stolen by a young
pickpocket named Cassandra Cain. Harley's path crosses with
Cassandra, as well as vigilantes Huntress, Black Canary, and
Detective Renee Montoya, forcing the unlikely group to unite and
protect the girl from Black Mask's sadistic empire.
Dad's Preview:
The shining diamond from the so-so film,
Suicide
Squad (2016), was Ms. Robbie's portrayal the the Joker's
main squeeze, Harley Quinn. She certainly deserved her own film,
and there's lots here to like. She is manic as ever, yet here is
a little sanity behind all the crazy shit that spins around in
her addled mind. Ewan McGregor is delightful as Black Mask, a
smooth-talking crime boss. The slo-mo stunts are note-worthy.
Where the film falls a little is the supporting girl-squad
assembled. They kinda resemble the Birds of Prey from the
comics, but the filmmakers missed the mark, and the Birds,
frankly, don't fly. Harley is best kicking butt side-by-side of
super-villians, not gals dressed up in leather to look cool...
it just felt a little cheap. The ladies deserved better
super-treatment.
