Why watch this? How
far would you go to reach a "sure thing'? And what does that say
about you?
Plot Summary:
Walter and Allison are college freshman in New England - and
they don't like each other. This road film takes them via
carpool to UCLA in California during Christmas break. Alison
wants to see her long-distance boyfriend. Walter has been
assured by his best friend that he has been set up with a
beautiful "sure thing". Thus starts a cross-country,
argument-filled, trip to remember.
Dad's Preview:
Most 80's
romantic comedies were crass and superficial. Director Rob Reiner
makes sure this film
takes the time to delve deeper into its characters. Sure, it's
about the incredible lengths males will travel for sex, but also
exposes how hollow and unfulfilling that can be. This was
the first major role for my man, John Cusack (Say
Anything... (1989),
Con Air
(1997)).
