"There's no room for
personal feelings in science, Judith!"– Prof. Bernard
Quatermass
Why watch this? This
is one of Hammer Films' early sci-fi horror classics.
Plot Summary:
Professor Quatermass' experimental rocket returns to Earth after
its historic spaceflight, crash-landing in the English
countryside. Upon inspection, two of the astronauts are
mysteriously missing while the lone survivor is left completely
unresponsive. He soon undergoes a horrifying biological
metamorphosis, forcing authorities into a desperate race against
time to stop a parasitic alien.

Dad's Preview:
This film, inspired by the BBC Television serial called
the
Quatermass Experiment, is a perfect example of early
Sci-fi cinema where the reveal of the threatening entity
is saved for the film's climax. The majority of the
run-time is spent following scientists and doctors
desperately trying to solve the mystery regarding what
occurred aboard an experimental spaceship that returned
to earth with only one survivor... and he ain't right in
the head. This film, on a very limited budget, succeeds
in building suspense to its shocking end. I am
betting that
The Blob
(1958) was influenced by this slimy creature flick. |
