Why watch this? This
gritty revisionist Western has quite a surprise ending.
Plot Summary:
A widowed farmer named Henry lives a quiet, secluded life with
his teenage son in 1906 Oklahoma. Their peaceful routine is
shattered when Henry discovers a mysterious, injured man on his
property who is carrying a satchel full of cash. When a
dangerous group of men arrives demanding the stranger and the
money, Henry is forced to defend his homestead, unleashing an
unexpected, deadly proficiency with firearms that hints at a
dark and heavily guarded past.

Dad's Preview:
Tim Blake Nelson is slowly and surely becoming an actor
that catches my attention. He was great in
O' Brother Where Art
Thou? (2000) and
The
Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018). This very
realistic film pits a gang of roving murderers, posing
as the law, against a introverted farmer with a surly
teen son. Though it is not a mystery per se, there are
clues along the way that point the audience to the
real identity of the farmer, who by his nature is
cautious and very capable of defending himself. Nelson
is at the center of it all and I found myself hanging on
his every sullen word. The ending will knock your boots
off, too. |
