inside of you. It's a really nasty one. And in a few hours it's
gonna burst through your ribcage, and you're gonna die. Any
questions?"
- Ripley 8
Why watch this?
Somehow, four sequels in, this slimy and ultra-violent film
manages to be really entertaining.
Plot Summary:
Two centuries after her death, Ellen Ripley is cloned to extract
the Alien queen embryo inside her. The military scientists on
the spaceship USM Auriga intend to study and breed the
Aliens using abducted humans as hosts. However, the Aliens
escape and are intent on reaching the populated Earth. Only
Ripley-8 and a crew of mercenaries can stop them.
Dad's Preview:
The first three Alien films certainly took themselves
very serious. This very different fourth effort comes at you with a
wink... a need to simply suspend belief and simply enjoy Ripley
one more time. Two
hundred years after Alien 3
(1992),
a clone of the original Ripley, called Ripley 8, has been created
using her DNA merged with a Xenomorph. That sentence alone should warn
you that this is going to be a wild sci-fi ride. The smart move
was to bring in great character actors such as Ron Perlman,
Michael Wincott, and the always creepy Brad Dourif - they're fun
to watch, and their witty one-liners hold the film's outlandish plot together. You
will have no idea where this flick is going, and when you get to
the end, you'll say, "What did I just see?"
