  • John Straley served in the War of 1812, and he may have received a land grant for this service. See Muster Roll, Oct 30, 1813, 4th Regiment, Virginia Militia, Capt. George W. Camp's Company muster.  He became a Methodist minister in 1833, and he appears to have lived and preached in Bluefield, Princeton and Monroe, WV. His eight children were born in that region.

  • Sarah E. Straley (b. 1816; d. 1863, Elgood, MercCtyWV) may also  have been John and Betsy's child.
