Joe was a member of the Lampasas County Militia in 1875. Click HERE for Joe L. Straley's obituary in the Lampasas Leader.   From an article in the Lampasas Daily: A Country of Long Life. Joe Straley was in the city Tuesday, and stated that his father had brought him in for the day.  He also remarked that the uncle of D. A. Holley had also brought him to the city.  Upon further inquiry it was learned that the four who came to the city together from the neighborhood of Adamsville were each more than 60 years of age and that the combined ages of (the) quartet would equal more than 300 years. Lee Straley, one of the oldest citizens on this section, is now 93 years of age. Tom Stanley, uncle of D. A. Holley, is 83 years of age; Joe Straley is 61, and D. A.
