DEATH OF JOE STRALEY

Uncle Joe Straley, one of the poineer men of Lampasas county, died Saturday night at his home in Adamsville, after a brief illness. He was taken sick about a week ago, but from the first of his illness it was serious and he was advised to go to Temple for an operation, but death relieved him of his suffering in only a few days. He was 70 years of age the 12th day of March, and had lived in the Adamsville community sixty-seven years, having come with his parents to this county in 1856.

The Straley family has been one of the most prominent families in the county, there being several brothers and sisters, all of whom habe been prime factors in the building of a well established community. The deceased was a member of the Baptist church, and Rev. W. L. Rogers, pastor of the Adamsville church, conducted the funeral services Sunday afternoon, and the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife's grave, she having died several years ago.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jim West, of Evant, and Mrs. T. E. McCandless, of Meridian. John Straley of Coleman, a brother of the deceased, was present at the funeral, and another brother, S. H. Straley, came home from Temple, where he had been with Mrs. Straley who is in the hospital, having arrived a few hours before the death of his brother.

It is said that the funeral was the most largely attended of any funeral in the community, all of the old friends and acquaintances attending, to pay a last tribute of respect.
