"You think you're easy? Compared to what, the Hundred Years' War?" - Hubbell Gardner

Why watch this? It is about love, and how hard it can be to to keep "working things out".

Plot Summary: The story follows an impassioned, politically active woman and a carefree, charming writer who fall in love despite their diametrically opposed personalities and fundamental societal beliefs. Their romance unfolds over several years, from their college days through the World War II and McCarthy eras, a period of significant political and social change. Ultimately, their deep personal differences and the external pressures of the tumultuous times test their relationship.

Dad's Preview: People are complicated. Then they bump into each other and love occurs. Later, the very thing that attracts you to a person becomes the wedge that drives you apart. As a not-so-sensitive dude growing up, I avoided such sappy fare, however, I might have been wrong in my rash assessment. The rich depth of this story surprised me. As every scene flew by I really began to appreciate Streisand and Redford, and how understated they played their roles. Their relationship feels real, as it's never without complications, but they sure try to make it work. For that, they both deserve some level of happiness. As for me, I gained a more mature perspective on that thing called love.
