Why watch this?
Martin, Chase and Short, and their inbred silliness, carry the
film.
Plot Summary:
Three down-on-their-luck silent film actors are mistakenly hired
by a Mexican village to defend them from a real-life bandit and
his gang. Believing it's simply another acting gig, the trio
travels to the village, unaware they are entering a truly
dangerous situation. They must find a way to overcome their lack
of actual experience and become the heroes the villagers believe
them to be.
Dad's Preview:
This Western parody comedy had everything lined up. Three very
talented comedians from the SNL gene pool were paired with
renown
Animal House (1978) director John Landis. So what
happened? Well, it is a decent film, yet it probably did not
meet expectations. The good news is that it has a fairly
significant cult following, and I must say that I found it much
funnier on my second viewing - after I stopped trying to make
sense of it. It's a spoof of the West, it's a comedy, and it's
not to be taken serious. That was good enough to impress my
movie-lovin' sister, and that is good enough for me.
