Dad's Preview:
I discovered Doris Day films thanks to a young lady I
dated in college. Years later I can see why she liked
the spunky singer-actress. This romantic comedy leans
into premises of incorrect assumptions, aka jumping to
wrong conclusions, all played up for laughs. Day and
Grant only starred in one film together and that is a
shame. Much was made about Grant's age (58) compared to
Mrs. Day's (40), but it works for me. I mean, his
character is rich and she's out of work. This effort is
aided by strong supporting actors in Gig Young, Audrey
Meadows and a very creepy John Astin (who would later
portray Gomez Addams in TV's
The Addams Family. |
