"Confronting fear is
the destiny of a Jedi. Your destiny. If you don't face Palpatine,
it will mean the end of the Jedi,
and the war will be lost." -
Luke
Why watch this? This
final film was average, and that's not par for Star Wars.
Plot Summary:
This film brings to a head the conflict between the Resistance
and the First Order. As Rey finishes her Jedi training, the evil
Emperor Palpatine's unexpected return from the dead casts a dark
shadow over the galaxy. Rey, Finn, and Poe embark on a perilous
journey across the galaxy, confronting their destinies while
racing to thwart Palpatine's grand scheme.
Dad's Preview:
I'd like to say this was a wonderful pinnacle in the Star Wars
film catalog, but I cannot. It's a mess of a story weighed down
by all it's obligations to pay homage to the franchise's past. I
would rather have had the risk-taking from the first two films,
but it is just not there. I am so disappointed in the resurrection
of Palpatine - which in effect, nullifies the first three films.
Abrams has admitted that he did not have a plan for all three
films, but rather just made it up as they went. Well, this is
what you get: a final film that feels rushed, contrived and,
frankly, cheap. You should watch it just to see what happens, but
in my book, it is a big miss.
