Why watch this?
Kudos to J. J. Abram on this reboot - he gets it right.
Plot Summary:
James T. Kirk, a rebellious young man, joins Starfleet Academy
and quickly clashes with the logical Vulcan Spock, but their
shared potential is evident. An unexpected alien attack forces
them and other promising cadets onto the newly commissioned USS
Enterprise on its maiden voyage. Together, they face a vengeful
Romulan from the future whose actions threaten to destroy the
Federation, requiring them to overcome their differences and
become a team to save the future.
Dad's Preview:
I was determined to be hyper-critical of this remake featuring
the characters from the original Enterprise. And yes, there are
some things I had to get over (the bridge is ultra-modern
and technologically superior to the original). But as a whole, the
talented young actors
were faithful to the source material, and it is a lot of fun to watch
them pave their own new way. There's even a little time-jumping.
So, just sit back, and enjoy
beginning of their new Trek journey.
