Why watch this? It
is deservedly the standard by which all family musicals are
measured.
Plot Summary:
Set in Austria on the cusp of World War II, a high-spirited
young woman named Maria, considering a life as a nun, is sent to
be a governess to the seven children of the widowed and strict
Captain Georg von Trapp. Maria's love for music and kind nature
gradually bring joy and warmth back into the children's lives,
and eventually the Captain's as well.
Dad's Preview:
Set in Austria in the late 1930's, this delightful Disney
musical follows a precocious nun, Maria, who just doesn't fit in
at the abbey. Her Mother Abbess sends her to take care of a
family of seven, lorded over by their stern Austrian father, Naval Captain Georg
Von Trapp. There are musical numbers galore, and it almost goes without saying that the Austrian mountain scenery
is incredible. However, it's Julie Andrews, and her innocent, fun-loving
personality, who wins our hearts.
