"My dad, he was a
tunnel rat in Vietnam. They would send him into the tunnels
underground where the enemy was hiding, and they had it booby
trapped, so... sometimes he'd have to... like, crawl over dead
bodies. So, yeah, he... he used to drink." - Angelina
Why watch this?
This delightful musical drama gives us all a familiar, uplifting
message.
Plot Summary:
Based on a true story, this musical biopic follows two
struggling musicians in Milwaukee, Mike and Claire, who find
love and a shared purpose in forming a Neil Diamond tribute band
named Lightning & Thunder. As they transition from local
dive bars to wider popularity, the couple faces intense personal
and professional obstacles, including a severe accident that
threatens to derail their dreams and their relationship.

Dad's Preview:
This film leans into a couple of great themes. First, if
you are over 50, it is going to get you with Neil
Diamond, himself a performer whose confidence probably
outpaced his success. Many of Diamond's songs are
instantly recognizable - he did leave his mark on music.
The second is the comeback story. This film is cruising
along, happy as you please, then BAM! The second half is
this couple's glorious return from that event. I was
tapping my toes, crying, and cheering, so yeah, I liked
it. Hugh J. kills it, and I do believe Kate Hudson
deserved the Best Actress Oscar. Kate and Hugh sing
every song on the film's soundtrack. |
