Plot Summary:
This film documentary details the true story of eight Rhode
Island artists who built a hidden, fully functioning
750-square-foot living space inside a major, operating shopping
mall. Fueled by a collective frustration with local corporate
gentrification displacing creative spaces, the group managed to
smuggle in tons of construction materials and furniture to live
undetected for four years.

Dad's Preview:
This concept, to protest against a new mall, centers on
finding and living in a hidden wall space, and it just
cannot be passed over. The effort was primarily led by
artist Michael Townsend, who pulled together a small
group of like-minded Rhode Islanders. It is an
incredible endeavor that they could pull it off (finding
the lost space, transporting in all the furniture,
building a fake wall), and occupy that space for FOUR
YEARS. Yes, it's illegal, but it hurt nobody. The sheer,
audacious idea elevates and transmits the group's
central message: New construction projects forcefully
destroy historic city spaces, and the People never have
a choice... because they are never asked. |
