"People come to the Oasis
for all the things they can do, but they stay for all the things
they can be." – Parzival
Why watch this? A
dystopian future that will thrill all the gamers in the theater
seats.
Plot Summary:
In 2045, much of humanity escapes their grim reality by logging
into a sprawling, limitless virtual universe called the OASIS.
When the game's eccentric creator dies, he leaves behind a
series of hidden challenges with his immense fortune and total
control of the simulation as the grand prize. To prevent a
ruthless corporate tech giant from monopolizing the digital
world, an ordinary teenager teams up with a group of dedicated
allies to solve the puzzles first.

Dad's Preview:
Director Steven Spielberg goes all out in yet another
possible version of our world's future. He captured out
hearts in
A. I.
Artificial Intelligence (2001) and blew
our minds with
Minority Report (2002). This time he has created
a cloud-based world where virtual gamers live and
interact with others as avatars. This fake reality is
much preferred to the scorched Earth they inhabit in
2045 (damn, that's only 20 years away). Part of the fun
here is that the game characters and soundtrack's songs
are sampled from our pop-culture DNA. King Kong. Iron
Giant. The Shining. Van Halen. Pair that with
breath-taking CGI magic and you've got a very
stimulating way to spend two hours with some
excessively-buttered popcorn.
