"The revolution? When
the shooting stops, and the dead are buried, and the politicians
take over, it all adds up to one thing: a lost cause." -
Bill Dolworth
Why watch this? I do
like Western movies about men with, let's say, specialized
talents and questionable motives.
Plot Summary:
In 1917 along the Mexican-US border, a highly-skilled group of
men-for-hire are enlisted to find a wealthy rancher's kidnapped
wife, who has been carried off into deepest Mexico. As the
group's mission progresses, they learn that things are not as
they seem. They observe, from a distance, the kidnapped wife,
Maria Grant, willingly embracing her captor, Jesus Raza. They
assume they have been betrayed. Regardless, they re-acquire her,
and Raza himself, as an additional captive.

Dad's Preview:
This scenic Western
action flick was beautifully shot in the desert towers of
Monument Valley. There's gunplay aplenty and a couple of
well-placed plot twists. It is always a treat to have four of
Hollywood's greatest stars in Burt
Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Lee Marvin and Woody Strode, on the same team, battling
away for the cause of the day. The stunning Claudia Cardinale
adds a feminine touch. Yee Haw and pass the cornbread! |
