"Painless" Peter Potter
Why watch this? When
the great Bob Hope stars, it's a comedy from start to finish.
Plot Summary:
Sharpshooter Calamity Jane is sprung from jail and offered a
pardon if she helps the government track down gunrunners selling
weapons to a Native American tribe. When her designated partner
is killed, she ends up marrying a timid, traveling dentist named
Painless Peter Potter as part of her undercover operation.
Throughout their journey, Jane's expert shooting is mistakenly
credited to the cowardly Painless, making him an accidental
hero.
Dad's Preview:
Early Hollywood film comedies often featured Bob Hope, and this is vintage Bob Hope, portraying the
hapless grifter, lacking in both skills and courage. Yet, he's
incredibly loveable and somehow figures a way to get the girl.
There are some gags that we now find a bit offensive, but try to
overlook those in order to enjoy this honey of a comedy.
