"You must be joking!
007 on an island populated exclusively by women? We won't see
him till dawn!" - Q, regarding Bon's whereabouts
Why watch this?
A very good Bond entry, even with the worst title of the lot.
Plot Summary:
James Bond investigates the death of a fellow agent and a
mysterious Fabergé egg, leading him to uncover a jewel smuggling
operation. This operation is linked to the enigmatic Octopussy
and an exiled Afghan prince named Kamal Khan. Bond's
investigation eventually reveals a wider plot to detonate a
nuclear weapon and destabilize Europe.
Dad's Preview:
By the end of Roger Moore's run as 007, the formula was simply
getting stale. From 1973 to 1985, the franchise films
progressively got sillier and more over-stuffed. In this film
there are some moments to enjoy, but man, when it's campy, it's
cringe-worthy. Frankly, in this film, Moore is getting a little
too old to woo young, attractive models. That said, there are
spectacular stunts, lots of cool spy stuff, and Louis Jourdan
presents well as a slimy Afghan villain. Maud Adams' sexy
performance deserves praise, and she's easy on the eyes, too.
