"I like it here. It's
a quiet place. You've got the right idea, Nell. You live with
people, you get problems.
First they screw you up, then they
leave you, right?" -
Jerry
Why watch this? This
is a fascinating film about human connection.
Plot Summary:
A young woman named Nell is discovered living in isolation in a
remote woodland cabin after the death of her mother. Unfamiliar
with civilization, Nell communicates in a unique language and is
initially perceived as a wild child by the outside world. A
country doctor and a psychologist grapple with the decision of
whether to allow Nell to remain in her familiar environment or
integrate her into society, leading to a profound exploration of
human connection and the interplay between nature verses
nurture.
Dad's Preview:
The film explores themes of communication, societal
expectations, and the clash between natural existence and modern
civilization, driven by strong performances from its lead
actors. Neeson and Richardson (they fell in love during the
filming, eventually getting hitched.) turn in splendid
performances. Jodie Foster is truly
amazing and deserved the Best Actress Oscar.
