Why watch this?
For as painful as it is, it's a rewarding film to get through.
Plot Summary:
American college student Billy Hayes is caught smuggling drugs
out of Turkey and thrown into prison. Initially given a
four-year sentence, his release is overturned by a higher court,
condemning him to 30 years in prison. Faced with brutal
conditions and a hopeless legal situation, Billy is left to
desperately plot his escape.

Dad's Preview:
A young American is caught smuggling drugs and sentenced to life
in a Turkish prison. His situation is impossible and he is
abused badly. The only way to survive is to escape. This
film is about the boundaries of what a person can physically and
mentally endure. It is a testament to the human spirit. I really thought Brad Davis,
as the film's weary protagonist, would become a major
star after this, but it just did not happen. |
