Why watch this?
Divorce is so devastating. On the parents. On the children.
Period.
Plot Summary:
Charlie, a successful stage director, and Nicole, an actress,
are navigating the complexities of a bi-coastal divorce. Their
initial hope for an amicable separation is challenged by the
legal process and mounting disagreements, particularly regarding
the custody of their young son. As they engage with lawyers, the
emotional toll of their dissolving marriage becomes increasingly
evident, showcasing both the love that lingers and the pain that
surfaces.
Dad's Preview:
As I get older, films like this appeal to me more and more. It's
simple, without any special effects. It's honest and relatable,
and relies on the actors to become their characters.
At its center is a divorce with a young boy in the middle. The
pain is visceral and wrenching to witness. You are completely drawn in. I felt like I was spying on
the couple's private arguments. There are no heroes or villains
- just two real people who love their son, and to a degree still
love each other, but their history is too damaged to move on
together.
