"I can't beat it... I
can't beat it. I'm sorry." - Lee Chandler
Why watch this? This
is a powerful lesson in grief... how it instantly starts and
relentlessly stays.

Dad's Preview:
I first viewed this in 2016, a year after my wife's twin
sister passed way unexpectedly. I sort of prided myself
on how I was able to deal with death. What an idiot. At
that time I missed everything this movie was saying.
After years of witnessing grief firsthand, I put this on
a week ago. It wrecked me. I sobbed into my hands. This
quiet movie meanders along, jumping back in time here
and there, to tell Lee's story, and it is as tragic as
humanly possible. To cope, he turn off all emotions and
does his menial job as a handyman. Then his brother, his
rock, dies, and he has to go back to his hometown, and
face all the old scars again. The acting here is stellar
and brutally honest. Casey Affleck won Best Actor for
his understated, yet powerful, lead performance. This
slow burn tragi-drama is worth your time, but be
prepared to shed a few tears. |
