Plot Summary:
During World War II, survivors of a torpedoed civilian ship,
including a journalist, a millionaire, and several crew members,
find themselves stranded in a lifeboat. Their already desperate
situation is further complicated when they rescue a German
U-boat crew member from the water. As they struggle for
survival, sharing limited resources and battling the elements,
the disparate personalities clash.

Dad's Preview:
A German U-boat torpedoes a U.S. Merchant Marine ship and the
German U-boat is also destroyed. Only eight survive,
until a German survivor is also pulled out of the sea. There is much
debate about what to do with (or to) the kraut, since his side
launched the
initial torpedo. This survival film (based on the famous novel by John
Steinbeck) is a study in personalities,
leadership and how the real side of a person comes out in
a stressful
situation. So which actor steals the show? - The great Tallulah Bankhead,
who gives a superb performance. |
