Why watch this?
IMHO, this is one of the most realistic football films every
made.
Plot Summary:
This football movie follows legendary football coach Paul "Bear"
Bryant as he takes over the Texas A&M program in 1954. To whip
his team into shape, he takes them to a brutal, isolated
training camp in Junction, Texas, subjecting them to grueling
practices in intense heat and harsh conditions. The story
centers on the players who endure and survive this difficult
experience, showcasing their perseverance and the bond forged
through shared adversity.
Dad's Preview:
This is an interesting story about college football's great
coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Early in his career, he was head
football coach at Texas A&M. Their pre-season training was held
in the little Texas town of Junction. The camp was brutal,
bordering on abuse. The film is certainly honest in that
respect. And it raises the question, "How much is too much?" The
film ends with a reunion of the "Junction Survivors" and Bryant years later. Coach Bryant himself was unsure whether the
ex-players would hug him or punch him.
