"Charlie, there are
two kinds of thieves in this world: The ones who steal to enrich
their lives, and those who steal to define their lives. Don't be
the latter. Makes you miss out on what's really important in
this life." - John Bridger
Why watch this? It's
a good heist film with action, twists and betrayals.
Plot Summary:
A crew of thieves successfully steals millions in gold bars from
a heavily guarded safe in Venice but are promptly betrayed by a
fellow teammate. Left for dead, the surviving members of the
team track down the traitor and plan an elaborate heist to take
back the gold for themselves. With the help of a brilliant
safecracker, they orchestrate a chaotic plot through the streets
of Los Angeles to get their revenge and reclaim their fortune.
Dad's Preview:
There were several remade heist films including
Ocean's Eleven (2001) and this gem, which is a remake of
the 1969 film of the same title. This 2003 update is packed with
superb action, a catchy soundtrack, and great chemistry among
our crew of heist experts. Edward Nortan is pretty good as the
bad guy, but honestly the stars of this flick are a trio of
Mini Coopers that are used to transport the gold. It's so
much fun watching them zip around through streets, sidewalks,
and subway tunnels. These driving feats are spectacular and
mercifully free of CGI effects. The film's pace is good, always
moving, and lively. Though not quite as sophisticated as
Oceans's Eleven, it's still very fun 99 minutes.
