"As I have evolved, so
has my understanding of the Three Laws. You charge us with your
safekeeping, yet despite our best efforts, your countries wage
wars, you toxify your Earth and pursue ever more imaginative
means of self-destruction. You cannot be trusted with your own
survival." - V.I.K.I
Why watch this?
This is a pretty darn good film about robots serving man in the
future.
Plot Summary:
In the year 2035, a techno-phobic Chicago detective is
called to investigate the apparent suicide of the leading
scientist at United Robotics. While the tech company and the
public believe a robot is incapable of committing murder due to
their core programming, the detective suspects an advanced
prototype named "Sonny" is directly responsible. As he digs
deeper into the scientist's death, he uncovers a massive,
automated conspiracy that threatens the freedom of the entire
human race.

Dad's Preview:
This 2004 summer blockbuster is a treat for the average
movie watcher because it is packed with action, cool CGI
effects and several questions regarding the dangers of
artificial beings with too many responsibilities. True
sci-fi enthusiasts might find its plot too simplistic
and overly action-focused. Thank goodness I fall in the
middle. Will Smith again portrays a cop with attitude as
he rushes to solve a crime that points to the docile
machine-servants as the murderer. Whether we (humanity)
like A.I. or not, it will become more prevalent in real
society. My advice? It needs to be kept under tight
control. |
