Plot Summary:
Based on a true story and set in 1970s Brazil during a
tightening military dictatorship, the story follows the Paiva
family whose idyllic, beachside life is shattered when the
father is taken away by government agents. Mother Eunice Paiva
is forced to reinvent herself and protect her five children,
transforming her maternal strength into a quiet resilience
against a threatening political backdrop.
Dad's Preview:
This film intimately portrays a normal family, one that lives,
laughs, and occasionally squabbles. They could be any of us.
Yet, they are swept up in the horrors of politics and regime
change. It is terrifying how men enter their home and take their
father. They show now warrant, no evidence, no proof. Just
obey and don't question things. This story really happened. The
shining star of this film is Fernanda Torres - her performance
is captivating. This story is still today repeating itself
around the globe, and it can happen to any of us.
