"Should I bolt every
time I get that feeling in my gut when I meet someone new? Well,
I've been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and
frankly speaking, I've come to the conclusion that my guts have
shit for brains." - Rob Gordon
Why watch this? This
film is about romance the hard way, because it's always a mess
to get through.
Plot Summary:
A cynical record store owner in Chicago named Rob experiences a
messy breakup that forces him to examine his past failures in
romance. He revisits his top five most painful heartbreaks to
understand why he always sabotages his relationships.
Ultimately, he learns to grow up and appreciate the woman who
truly accepts him.

Dad's Preview:
Unlike the 1990's teens in the Brat Pack (Lowe, Cruise,
Estevez, etc.), there is just something about John
Cusack that made us think he's one of us. He's handsome,
but only if the lighting is right. He's athletically
able, but not a jock. He's a good guy, but can act like
an a-hole. This film taps into that, in fact, taking the
audience inside John's mind as he communicates with us
by breaking the cinematic
fourth wall. He just like us, well, men. He's
confused, self-focused, and really afraid of ending up
alone. Set in Chicago, mostly in a music store, we
follow Rob, and he's afraid of commitment. The '90's was
my time in that same boat... so I can relate big time.
Sure, there was pain, but I had a lot of fun. You will,
too, if you spend a little time with this movie. |
