"The lightning. It is
good for you! Your father was Frankenstein, but your mother was
the lightning!"
- Ygor
Why watch this? It's
a classic monster mash at its creepy best.
Plot Summary:
After their castle's destruction, Ygor rescues the preserved
Frankenstein Monster and seeks out another member of the
Frankenstein family to restore the creature to full power. The
new doctor intends to replace the Monster's abnormal brain with
a morally good one to cure its violent nature. However, a series
of sinister deceptions result in a terrifyingly different
outcome.

Dad's Preview:
This fourth Universal Frankenstein film continues
the story, but there were some casting changes. For this
film, Lon Chaney Jr. (The
Wolf Man-1941) dons the make-up and portrays the
creation, and he gives a fine, if muted, performance.
The eerie Bela Lugosi returns as the hunchback Ygor from
the previous film
Son of
Frankenstein (1939), and he's deliciously evil,
plotting to put his brain inside the monster's
invincible body. I enjoyed that Chaney continued the
tradition of showing us the monster's sense of humanity.
For the traditional horror fan, there is plenty of gothic fog and lightning, amid castle
battlements and throngs of angry, torch-wielding
villagers. What's not to like in this horror classic. |
