"I found what I am.
What I'm made from. I am the child of a charnel house. A
wreckage, assembled from refuse and discarded dead. A monster." –
The Creature
Why watch this?
Dark. Brooding. Ambitious. Brilliant.
Plot Summary:
Driven by a desire to conquer death, the arrogant scientist
Victor Frankenstein creates a living being from
stitched-together corpses, only to mistreat, then abandon, his
creation. The lonely Creature, after a period of self-discovery
and rejection by society, seeks out his maker to demand a
companion. This tragic conflict escalates into a pursuit across
the Arctic, where the creator must confront the consequences of
playing God.

Dad's Preview:
This wonderful adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel gives
horror fans a real taste of Mary's intentions. This is the most
faithful rendition, even topping the 1973 TV Movie entitled
Frankenstein: The True Story. Director del Toro may be
the greatest fantasy horror director of his generation and he
shows it here. We expect Victor Frankenstein to be brilliant and
driven by insanity, but his creature is what sets this film
above other Frankenstein films. The creature, though powerful,
seeks connection and friendship. As he seeks his own origin, we
grow to sympathize his plight, and even ask our own questions
about what makes a monster. This fine film answers that
question. |
