"When two hunters go
after the same prey, they usually end up shooting each other in
the back. And we don't want to shoot each other in the back." -
Col. Douglas Mortimer
Why watch this? The
second film in the Dollars Trilogy is packed with Western
action.
Plot Summary:
Two skilled bounty hunters named Manco and Colonel Douglas
Mortimer independently track a ruthless, unhinged Mexican outlaw
named El Indio across the American West. Recognizing that they
share the same dangerous target after the bandit breaks out of
prison, the two men cautiously form an uneasy alliance. They
hatch a strategic plan to infiltrate El Indio's violent gang and
stop his crew from pulling off a massive, highly calculated bank
heist in El Paso, Texas.

Dad's Preview:
The thing that director Leone did right was to pump new,
violent energy into over-used Western movie tropes: The
gunfight, the bank robbery, the reluctant partnership.
This epic Western exhales a nastiness. It is set in a
dusty land, there are no good guys, and betrayal is
around every corner, purchased for a peso. Leone took
old classic oater content, and made it something new - a
new classic, yet still honoring it's cinematic legacy.
Yes, Mr. Eastwood is the star, but I found Lee Van Cleef,
as Col. Mortimer, and Gian Volontè, as the psychotic El
Indio, to be the more interesting characters.
Dependably, Morricone soundtrack also garners top
billing. So roll up your sleeves and get dirty. |
