"Human beings simply
aren't built to function at the cruising altitude of a 747.
Okay, once we get above here, above the South Col, our bodies
will be literally dying. And I mean literally dying. It's not
called the Death Zone for nothing." - Rob Hall
Why watch this? Man
will never stop under-estimating the power of nature.
Plot Summary:
Based on the true events of the 1996 disaster, the movie follows
two commercial climbing expeditions led by Rob Hall and Scott
Fischer as they attempt to scale Mount Everest. During their
descent from the summit, a sudden and ferocious blizzard strikes
the mountain. Trapped in the treacherous conditions, the
climbers must battle freezing temperatures, extreme fatigue, and
dwindling oxygen to survive the ordeal.

Dad's Preview:
There are those who push the limits of human
achievement. Something is hard-wired (I don't understand
it) into their DNA - fly faster, dive deeper, swim
longer, climb higher. Then people eventually do the
impossible, and it almost becomes routine. That is about
the moment that the "floor falls out from under you."
This gripping survival film takes us up Mount Everest,
the pinnacle of mountain-climbing. But unwise,
well-meaning choices, coupled with a massive alpine
storm, put the climbers in serious jeopardy. Who will
survive? Are these people brave or selfish
thrill-seekers? What we do know (from original news
reports) is that they don't all make it. How we
get there is both painful and inspiring. |
