"I will never be good
enough for you... will I? No matter how hard I try. No matter
how hard any of us tries. Luisa will never be strong enough.
Isabela won't be perfect enough. Bruno left our family because
you only saw the worst in him." -
Mirabel
Why watch this? This
delightful Latino story is filled with catchy tunes and true
magic.
Plot Summary: The
Madrigals are an extraordinary family living in a magical house,
the Encanto, hidden within the mountains of Colombia. Each
family member is blessed with a unique magical gift, except for
Mirabel. When the magic surrounding their home starts to fade,
Mirabel, the only "ordinary" Madrigal, discovers she may be her
family's last hope to save their gifts and the Encanto itself.
Dad's Preview:
At the time of this writing, we are experiencing a bit of
culture shock, as Disney tries to address true equality in
animated films, and, of course, it is controversial. First it
was the female'ing of heroes (Little
Mermaid,
Mulan,
Captain
Marvel, etc.). Now, the focus is more on people of
color. If this makes you angry, it's a you problem. These
stories, including this one, are are universal, educational and
wonderful to experience. This creative story went mostly
overlooked at the box office, but it's certainly worth a look.
There's rigid family tradition, a underdog heroine, and some
very good musical numbers to tap our foot to. I particularly
enjoyed its sense of humor: witty and not over-done. So take a
little ride to South America and have a good time with
Encanto.
