Plot Summary:
A cynical Mexican bandit and an on-the-lam Irish explosives
expert form an unlikely partnership to rob the Mesa Verde
National Bank. Instead of finding wealth, they find themselves
trapped and swept up in the violent turmoil of the Mexican
Revolution. As they fight for survival alongside the rebels,
both men undergo profound personal changes and form a tenuous
friendship.

Dad's Preview:
There is a lot of genius around Sergio Leone's Westerns.
In several films, he cast a white star to portray a
Mexican bandit, and he wanted them to lean into the
stereotype, being as over-the-top as possible. He also
made films that had few boundaries. This film starts as
a bank robbery, then turns into an explosive actioner in
the middle the Mexican Revolution. There are even Nazi's
to blow up. The scale of this film is massive, as are
the stunts and effects. Even Ennio Morricone's
soundtrack is ratcheted up a few notches. This is
male-bonding on steroids, and I have to confess, I loved
it. It's stands only slightly below Leone's spaghetti
classics such as
The
Good, The Bad and the Ugly (1966) and
Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). |
