"I had another Liam Neeson
nightmare. I kidnapped his daughter and he just wasn't having
it... They made three of those movies. At some point you have to
wonder if he's just a bad parent." -
Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool
Why watch this? The
genre was stale, and this adventure into crass really lightened
things up.
Plot Summary:
We are immediately introduced to Deadpool, the impervious
red-tights-sporting, mercenary who flips, slashes, shots, and
annoyingly quips his way through a group of bad guys. The
foul-mouthed hero does take several opportunities to flashback
to major events: his life as a merc, his cancer, his mutation
origin, and his girlfriend, the lovely Vanessa, a hooker, you
guessed it, with a heart of gold - their chemistry is red hot.
Dad's Preview: This film manages to spoof a ton of
super-hero tropes, yet somehow not become a parody film. We get
to meet the wise-cracking, 4th-window-breaking, anti-hero
and love every minute of it. The fight scenes are very funny,
and the flashbacks do a great service to the lead character. A lot of the credit rests with
Reynolds himself. He pulls the role off and is clearly having a blast.
It's undeniably infectious. But be warned this is not a comic-book movie
for young kids.
