Why watch this?
After witnessing the brutal slaughter of his village and the
murder of his father, a young Cimmerian warrior named Conan
embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance. His path crosses
with a ruthless warlord seeking to reassemble an ancient,
mystical mask to conquer the land. To stop the madman's dark
ambitions, Conan must protect a special young woman who holds
the key to the mask's power.
Plot Summary:
Momoa looks great, but the story is simply meh.

Dad's Preview:
Conan the Barbarian is my guy. I read all the Lancer
paperbacks, voraciously collected both the Marvel Comics
and the
Savage Sword of Conan graphic magazines. Arnold
Schwarzenegger's Conan first film was serviceable. The
initial promotions on this flick gave me some hope. The
result was shockingly ordinary. Due to licensing issues,
filmmakers are unable to use any of the plots of the
original 18 Robert E. Howard stories - what a god-awful
shame. When this finally does occur, it's going to be a
film or mini-series goldmine. Anyway, Momoa's turn as
Conan is angry and mean, lacking the charisma and
heroism present in REH's writings. I will say this sword
and sorcery flick is worth a single watch. I most
enjoyed the initial segment on Conan's youth and his
interactions with his father, Corin, portrayed by the
great Ron Pearlman. |
