Why watch this? This film is as beautiful as it is horrifying.

Plot Summary: Irina, an orphaned young woman, travels to New Orleans to reunite with her estranged brother, Paul. Shortly after her arrival, she discovers a terrifying family secret: she is descended from an ancient line of "Cat People," beings who transform into deadly panthers when sexually aroused. As she navigates this dark truth, Irina finds herself torn between her attraction to a human man and the dangerous, insestuous nature of her family legacy.

Dad's Preview: I read that David Bowie did the soundtrack, so I gave this film look. I am very glad I did. This remake of the classic Cat People (1942) centers on individuals who are linked to felines and can transform into black panthers. They are doomed to kill mortals, because they can only breed outside of their race. Natassja Kinski captivates in the role of Irena, which perfectly fits her. The plot follows the original film, but adds new dimensions that enhance the story, namely the relationship between Irena, and her brother, Paul (expertly portrayed by Malcolm McDowell). There are some gorgeous scenes featuring the large cats. That said, some scenes are graphically terrifying and will make you flinch.
