Why watch this?
Anyway you slice it, Blue Beetle is a cool super-hero.
Plot Summary: The
story follows recent college graduate Jaime Reyes, who returns
to his hometown full of aspirations for the future but finds his
family facing unexpected hardships. His life changes forever
when he accidentally comes into possession of an ancient relic
of alien biotechnology known as the Scarab. After the mysterious
artifact chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed
with an incredible suit of armor and unpredictable superpowers.

Dad's Preview:
This version of the
DCEU (started by
Man of
Steel, 2013), was rapidly coming to a close,
relegating its last few films to lame duck
status. This is unfortunate because Blue Beetle
has a lot that works, and for that, I unapologetically
liked it. The cast is mostly Latino-American, and the
film's lead actor, Xolo Maridueña, is charmingly
charismatic. Besides an array of visual effects, the
best parts of the film are Jaime's interactions with his
Mexican family. They really seem to be an authentic
clan, struggling to survive in a country as minorities.
The weakest aspect of this popcorn actioner is the
villain, portrayed unconvincingly by Susan Sarandon.
Regardless, if you like super-heroes, check this one
out... and I'll promise to stop bugging you about it. |
