"The main thing is to
have the money. I've been rich and I've been poor. Believe
me, rich is better." - Debby Marsh, to Det. Bannion
Why watch this? This
noir classic is genuinely shocking at times.
Plot Summary:
Homicide detective Dave Bannion investigates the suspicious
suicide of a colleague, uncovering a massive web of corruption
between the local crime syndicate and the police department.
After his family is targeted by the brutal gang, Bannion turns
in his badge to launch a personal crusade of vengeance. Aided by
a disfigured mob moll, Bannion relentlessly hunts down the
criminals, threatening to destroy the city's corrupt power
structure in the process.

Dad's Preview:
A classic actor who often flies under the radar is Glenn
Ford. However, there is a no-nonsense way about him that
makes you feel lucky that he's on your side. As this
film's honest cop, he's got a heart, buried deep inside,
and he will not hesitate to rough you up, that is, if
you're breaking the law. Directed by the famed Fritz
Lang (Metropolis
(1927)), this crime drama is as gritty as they get.
I uttered the phrase, "No way!" several times. Ford's
stoic performance is aptly supported by the sultry
Gloria Grahame and the sinister Lee Martin. This will be
a worthy entry in your Film Noir collection. |
