idea of a good time." –
Edwina Cutwater
Why watch this?
Tomlin and Martin shine in this body-swapping comedy.
Plot Summary:
Edwina is a dying, snobby millionaire with few friends. She
enlists a mystic shaman to export her life essence into a
healthy woman in order to live on after her body dies. She also
hires a burnt-out attorney, Roger, to handle the legal
proceedings to pass Edwina's estate to her "new self". Of
course, the transfer process goes wrong, and Edwina ends up in
Roger's body; her on the right side, Roger on the left. There
are some great laughs as the two polar opposite personalities
internally battle over Roger's bodily functions.
Dad's Preview:
I really learned to admire both Lily Tomlin and Steve Martin on
their guest appearances on Saturday Night Live. This creative
comedy film, about body-switching, is ripe for fun, and it picks
all the fruit. The two lead stars ham it up, reigned in expertly
by journeyman actor/director Carl Reiner. Sure, it's not
something that can ever occur, but that's the fun - where this film
takes us is the reward for suspending reality for it's 93
minutes.
