Plot Summary:
After her husband dies, Alice Hyatt and her son, Tommy, leave
their small town in New Mexico for California, where Alice hopes
to restart her singing career. They settle in Arizona due to
financial difficulties, where Alice works as a waitress. Her
plans to move on change when she develops a relationship with a
rancher named David.
Dad's Preview:
My Mom was everything to me. At age 47, she found herself
divorced with a bratty, spoiled six year-old boy to raise. We set out from
our home
in Abilene, Texas, and moved
to El Paso, ten hours, and a barren desert, away. She started over,
too.
New setting. New job. New obstacles. This story sings to that.
Here, Alice is forced to take on
jobs she feels are beneath her because she has a son to support.
Like my Mom, this slice-of-life movie is about real, motherly
strength, and the value of finding friends to support you. Ellen
Burstyn, as Alice, gives the performance of her career.
