Why watch this?
When Universal monster films grew stale, Lou and Bud injected
new life.
Plot Summary:
Wilbur and Chick, a pair of unsuspecting freight handlers, get
their world turned upside down when crates containing the
remains of Frankenstein's monster and Count Dracula arrive from
Europe. Dracula awakens and plans to revive the weakened
monster, intending to replace its brain with that of a simpleton
– specifically, Wilbur. Larry Talbot, the Wolfman, arrives
seeking to thwart Dracula's plans and free Wilbur, but when the
full moon rises, chaos erupts with the Wolfman, Dracula, and the
Monster running rampant.
Dad's Preview: The
thin, nay-saying Bud Abbott, and his portly partner, Lou Costello
were a prolific comedy team making films since the late 1930's. As their careers
slumped, a brilliant idea arose to pit them against
filmdom's famous monsters. This is the best of the "monster"
films, as they encounter The Wolf Man, Count Dracula
and the Frankenstein monster. The real treat was that Bela Lugosi
and Lon Chaney reprised their original roles.
