    COLEMAN (Staff) - Services for Mrs. Amelize Moseley Garrett, 69, of Bangs were planned for 2 p.m. today in Stevens Chapel with burial in Concho Cementery.

    Mrs. Garrett died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday in Brownwood Community Hospital after an illness.

    She was born Nov. 5, 1906, in Byrd's Store in Brown County and had lived in Bangs 27 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

    Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Frances Cranage of Reading, PA., Mrs. Hazel Hawkins of Brownwood and Mrs. Ora Gravell of Bangs; four sons, Carroll Moseley of Floresville, Jimmy Moseley and Leon Moseley, both of Bangs, and Lowell Moseley of Austin; one sister, Mrs. Ora Smith of Dumas; one brother, Dee Windham of Midland; 23 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

  • Sam Windham's Obituary
    BROWNWOOD - Sam Windham, 84, died at midnight Sunday in the Brownwood Regional Hospital. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. R. J. Elkins will officiate. Burial will be in Windham Cemetery.

    Born Nov. 20 1899, in Byrds, he was a rancher and a lifetime resident of Brown County.

    Survivors are one brother, James Morris Windham of Brownwood; three nieces, Ruth Cook of Brookings, Ore.; Gladys Hounshell of Brownwood and Betty Dillard of Abilene; and three nephews, Jimmy, Billy and Burl Windham of Brownwood.
     

  • William W. Roberts was a deputy sheriff in Comanche, Texas. He was killed when his car overturned and struck a telephone pole.

  • The 1920 Census also indicates that there were two more children, Fred M. and Mary M.

  • Dr. Sam H. Windham's middle name was "Hillory", as verified by his name given on the 1917-1918 Draft records.

  • Dr. Windham, along with two other men, was murdered by gunshot by an angry wooden-legged ranch-hand named Will "Peg Leg" Ward. Dr. Windham was killed instantly and Ward was was tried and sentenced to 99 years in prison. Read the article from the Galveston Morning News.

  • Aubrey O. Floyd's certificate of death lists his occupation as "Uranium Scout". His obit lists him as an "oil and uranium scout". Maybe that's why he was in Utah... He had a heart attack at age 56. He was also married.

  • Sam R. Windham was in the Civil War, as a Confederate, in Sibley's and Green's regiments. He enrolled on Oct 22, 1961 in Crockett, near San Antonio.  He was in the 4th Regiment - Texas Mounted Volunteers muster with Jim Lodric Windham. He was held prisoner in New Mexico from May 1862 to Sep 1862.  He moved to Brown County, Texas when Congress offered Texas land grants to settlers.

  • Amazon's parents are buried at Roberts Cemetery, BrowCtyTX. Her parents were David BAUGH (b.  Dec 9, 1803 in Franklin County, GA; d. Feb 20, 1868 in Brown County, TX) and Pency Louisa COLLINS (b. Dec 16, 1816 in Franklin County, GA, d. Sep 8, 1895). She had a son, Marion McDonald Cox (b. Dec 17, 1866) to her first husband, Polk Cox, a cowboy who worked for her father on their ranch in Brown County.  There is an online biography on David Baugh by Barbara Cox. 1
