PIONEER DIES AT LAWN HOME
Ellard Mitchell, Retired Farmer, 74, Was Hurt in Fall 4 Weeks Ago
LAWN. Dec. 29 — Funeral service for Ellard Mitchell, retired farmer, was held at his home Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. J.A. West, Primitive Baptist minister of Abilene, officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery at Oplin, former home of the Mitchell family.

Mr. Mitchell died Wednesday morning from injuries received in a fall a month ago and from which he had been confined to bed for the past week. He would have been 74 years old on February 12.

Born in Illinois, Ellard Mitchell moved to Texas with his family at the age of seven years and settled in Tarrant county. Moving to West Texas later, he established a home at Oplin where he resided until coming to Lawn 12 years ago. Prior to his retirement a few years ago, he engaged in farming.

Mr. Mitchell was married to 1883 to Miss Frances Needham. Six children were born to the union, four of whom survive, with their mother. Daughters are, Mrs. Delia Griffin and Mrs. Polly Chambers, both of Lawn. Sons are Needham Mitchell of Hamby and King Mitchell of Waco.

Pallbearers were C. B. Swindle, F. L. Stanaland, H. A. Powell, G. T. Bradley, J. E. Casey and Henry Keese.

M. A. Horton, Ovalo funeral director, had charge of funeral arrangements.
