  • PFC Lionel F. Johnson was killed during World War II in the Philippines. The paper's article states, "Johnson died April 7, 1945 from gunshot wounds received on Mindanan Island four days before. He enlisted in the Army Nov. 16, 1943 and went overseas in May 1944." It is interesting that the article does not state "killed in action". Was this friendly fire, or a murder?

  • Joel L. Snow went by "Leonard". He was a Kiln Operator in Elgin, TX. 

  • Louis Snow was single and working for the State on the highways. He died at 24 years old from the flu and pneumonia. 

  • D. D. Snow lived in Houston and was a truck driver. He died in Arizona, at age 33, of a pulmonary hemorrhage. He had tuberculosis for 3 years. His remains were returned to Houston, but not able to find his place of burial yet.

Notes:
  • Joel Baker joined the 16th Infantry of the Confederate States of America, Flournoy’s Regiment Texas Infantry, Company I. He marched to Camden, Arkansas and down to Louisiana, with the regiment fighting at Milliken’s Bend, the Red River Campaign, the Camden Expedition, Mansfield and Pleasant Hill. He was captured 9 April 1864 at Pleasant Hill in Louisiana. According to his military records he had been sick from June through September. He suffered physically from his service with the CSA until his death.

  • After Joel returned from the war, at age 30 , on 29 April 1868 he married Aurelia Springstead.

  • Joel was a Church of Christ circuit preacher and farmer. His granddaughter, Jean Prather, tells that he farmed in the winter and then when the weather was good in the summer, he took their wagon and went around the area preaching the gospel. They lived in Fayette County, TX around Muldoon and Black Jack Springs all their lives.
