Notes: |
-
Noel W. Johnson Sr. was a carpenter.
-
Leon G. Johnson was a restaurant cook.
-
PFC Lionel F. Johnson was killed during World War II in the
Philippines. The paper's article states, "Johnson died April 7, 1945
from gunshot wounds received on Mindanan Island four days before. He
enlisted in the Army Nov. 16, 1943 and went overseas in May 1944." It is
interesting that the article does not state "killed in action". Was this
friendly fire, or a murder?

Joel Baker joined the 16th
Infantry of the Confederate States of America, Flournoy’s Regiment Texas
Infantry, Company I. He marched to Camden, Arkansas and down to
Louisiana, with the regiment fighting at Milliken’s Bend, the Red River
Campaign, the Camden Expedition, Mansfield and Pleasant Hill. He was
captured 9 April 1864 at Pleasant Hill in Louisiana. According to his
military records he had been sick from June through September. He
suffered physically from his service with the CSA until his death. -
After Joel returned from the
war, at age 30 , on 29 April 1868 he married Aurelia Springstead. -
Joel was a Church of Christ
circuit preacher and farmer. His granddaughter, Jean Prather, tells that
he farmed in the winter and then when the weather was good in the
summer, he took their wagon and went around the area preaching the
gospel. They lived in Fayette
County, TX around Muldoon and Black Jack Springs all their lives.
