Why watch this?
An British elderly couple try to cheerfully weather the drop of
the bomb.
Plot Summary:
An elderly British couple, Jim and Hilda Bloggs, naively prepare
for an imminent nuclear attack by following outdated government
pamphlets to build a home shelter. They survive the initial
blast, but are completely oblivious to the danger of the
radioactive fallout as they try to maintain a sense of normalcy
in the destroyed English countryside. In the days following, the
couple's health slowly deteriorates while they wait for help
that never arrives, highlighting the tragic consequences of
their cheerful ignorance.
Dad's Preview:
The 1980's featured several films about a thing we all called
"Doomsday", which is the moment when they launch their nuclear
missiles, then we immediately launch ours, and the world is left
to deal with the horrible aftermath. This animated film
illustrates the futility of any measures the common folk can
take to prepare for this insane event. If a person is not
immediately obliterated, they must endure the long journey to
death by radiation exposure. It's not a pretty picture. This
certainly is a cautionary tale against nuclear war. Pink Floyd's
Roger Waters, a controversial activist, performed the music on
the soundtrack. Several artists, including David Bowie, Squeeze
and Genesis, performed songs.
