Why watch this? The
Korean Was horrible - M*A*S*H darkly made it something to laugh
about.
Plot Summary:
Set in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War,
the irreverent and brilliant doctors save countless wounded
soldiers. To cope with the gruesome realities of their jobs, the
surgeons constantly rebel against strict military protocol and
play wild pranks on authority figures. Between grueling shifts,
the staff spends their time drinking, pursuing romantic affairs,
and competing in an outrageous, high-stakes football game.

Dad's Preview:
The TV series M*A*S*H was always playing on some
channel. I'd drift in and out of episodes, but it never
grabbed me. It was just combat surgeons bitching about
everything, and Klinger sporting drag. Finally seeing
the original film was enlightening. It's way more sassy
than I expected. In fact, it is the first movie where
the word f*** was not censored. They're all here:
Hawkeye, Trapper John, Major Burns, Col. Blake, Radar,
and Margaret "Hotlips" Houihan. Director Altman, both
directly and symbolically, makes his anti-war statement
known, and it echoed the way many felt in 1970, as the
Vietnam War killed American soldiers every day, and we
watched it on the nightly news. |
