"We know they're
extremely advanced technologically, which suggests - very
rightfully so - that they're peaceful. An advanced civilization,
by definition, is not barbaric." -
Professor Donald Kessler
Why watch this?
They don't come in peace, but they're kinda cute.
Plot Summary:
When a fleet of saucer-shaped Martian spacecraft surrounds
Earth, the U.S. President and his advisors are split on whether
the aliens have truly "come in peace" or are preparing for a
hostile invasion. The big-brained invaders quickly demonstrate
their sadistic sense of humor by disrupting diplomatic efforts
and launching a chaotic, worldwide rampage that destroys major
global landmarks. Ultimately, a unique, unexpected audio
weakness is discovered by a civilian, allowing humanity to fight
back.
Dad's Preview:
This alien-invasion, dark comedy features an all-star cast, some
in meaty roles, some in cameos. Planet Earth is about to
experience the one thing it fears most - its hostile take-over
by homicidal Martians. One by one, Hollywood's greatest talent
is shot, stabbed, obliterated, crushed and mercilessly dissected
to satisfy Martian science. Tim Burton's macabre sense of humor
addresses humanity's hubris, and the concept that otherworldly
beings might just be as sadistic and warped as we are. It blends
old Sci-fi flicks of the past with today's CGI, then tosses in a
heaping dose of stinging satire. Honestly, by the end, I was
rooting for the big-brained, skull-faced ET's
